Chicks

I love to watch a momma hen and her chicks.  We usually only have a few chicks born here every spring.  But there was something in the water this year.  We have about 30 chicks running around in the back.  So many that I will be selling some of them.

Goats are loving the sunshine, too!!!

They absolutely love this warm weather and all the green grass.  The goats stay out all day long eating and lazing around under their favorite tree.

Maisie is leading the way this time.  She is such a sweetheart and freshened with a very nice udder.

Just let Isley out with her three does.  All are doing great.

Tia and Lahaina enjoying the day too.

These are Dominiques twin does that are so friendly.  I wanted to take more pictures of them but they just wanted my attention
.
Black buckling is reserved by his very colorful brother (picture below) is still for sale.  Soon be putting the bucklings in the buck lot.

Davey Crockett is another Destiny buckling that is for sale.

Flowers are Blooming

So great to have this warm weather after our long winter.  Jeff and I sat on the porch to enjoy our lunch.  Birds are building their nests and some of my flowers are blooming. This is a Bleeding Heart perennial that my daughter-in-law, Bethany, gave me a couple of years ago for Mothers Day. Also have lots of Iris's blooming. Another daughter-in-law got me me hooked on Iris's years ago. These are the early bloomers.  Have some other Iris's getting ready to bloom.

Waiting on these peony's to bloom.

Kids Faces

These kids are just so cute.  I love their expressive faces.

More Bucks

Not one of my favorite things is waiting all winter for kidding season.  Then having so many bucks.  I am now at 10 bucks to 5 does born this spring.  Maisie kidded last night with one huge buck.  She had 3 beautiful does last spring.  Don't have any picture of him yet.

Destiny gave me two very colorful bucks and one gorgeous doe.  She is already spoken for and named.  Delta Dawn is her name.

Destiny also had two very colorful bucks.  Both are currently for sale.

Kidding Season 2014

Dominique usually gives me one very spotted kid each year.  But I didn't get one this year.  Dominique was bred to Kastdemur's Walk the Line.  We got two beautiful does from that breeding.

Next up we had Lorelei bred to Wingwood Farm Amazing Adonis.  Two very colorful bucklings came from this breeding.

Next, just yesterday we had twins again.  Minerva/Maz gave us a beautiful doe and handsome buck.

BRRRR!!!!

Okay, I think I have had enough of this cold weather and snow.  Yesterday morning it was 12 below zero.  This morning it is just zero.  It is so cold Cora Bell wouldn't come out of the barn first thing this morning.  By the time I did all my chores, she did come out and started her rounds.

Our barns are insulated but no heat in them. I worry about my goats in this cold, cold weather.  We try to keep warm water for drinking twice a day and plenty of hay.  Everyone is okay this morning.  My neighbor lost one of her precious yearling does yesterday to hypothermia.  So please take extra care of your goats in this weather.

Goats in the Snow

I close the girls and boys up at night in cold weather.  As you can see the doors are still closed this morning.  I will be letting them out in a just a minute.

Okay girls come out in the snow with me.  These chickens were born under the barn last spring.  They still roost there at night.  One of them did venture in the snow a little distance and then went back under the barn. Topaz was the only goat that would come out for pictures this morning.  She is such a sweetheart.

Snow this morning

We have about 4 inches of snow on the ground right now and it is still snowing.  I am like a little kid (human) when it snows.  I just love the fresh snow and how quiet the whole world is with snow on the ground. I just love making foot prints in the fresh snow.  Got my camera out this morning for snow pictures.
This is the gate going down to the barn.  No foot prints yet but I am coming though.  I usually let my chickens out first but they do not like the snow.  I tried tempting them with a piece of bread to come out for pictures.  But they looked but would not come out.  Well one of them came out just enough to get to the bread.

Here comes Thomas to greet me this morning.  He seems to like the snow.  Thomas was named by my grandson, Jett, after his favorite blue train.  Okay all you cat lovers, Thomas has free access to the barn too.
